Donating with Zcash

Free2Z lets supporters make direct, peer-to-peer donations to creators using Zcash. The wallet and address type determine transaction visibility and any network fee; Free2Z does not take a commission from the wallet transfer.

To make a donation using Zcash, supporters can navigate to the creator's profile or zPage and click on the "Support" button. This will bring up a modal with a Zcash tab, which shows the exact recipient address (a zPage can have its own support address; otherwise it is the creator's profile address) and provides a QR code, payment URI, and copy-paste function to easily input the address into their Zcash wallet. Supporters can choose the amount of Zcash they want to send and, for shielded addresses, write an optional memo, and then complete the transaction using their Zcash wallet.

Zcash sent this way goes directly to the creator. Free2Z is not part of the payment and never reads the memo. Sending Zcash to Free2Z itself is only ever for buying 2Z, the platform credits used for boosts, comments and other on-site actions; Zcash sent to a creator does not boost a page.

Donate with Zcash

Zcash supports shielded transactions, which can hide transaction details from the public blockchain. Free2Z does not intermediate a direct wallet transfer, but privacy depends on the address type, wallet, and network settings you choose; a donation is not automatically anonymous in every configuration.

Some Zcash wallets support encrypted memos. The Support widget lets you write an optional memo for shielded addresses: on a zPage it starts as the page's title, and you can edit it or clear it (a cleared memo sends no memo at all). The memo is delivered to the creator's wallet and only the creator can read it; Free2Z never sees it, and it carries no Free2Z instruction of any kind. Transparent addresses cannot carry a memo, so the widget attaches none.

Free2Z supplies the recipient address and does not process the direct wallet transfer. Whether a donation is linkable to a sender depends on the addresses and wallet options used. Check the address shown in the widget against the one your wallet shows before sending.

By donating with Zcash, supporters can send direct support from their wallet. The privacy and security of the payment depend on the wallet and address type selected.

Steps

To make a donation using Zcash, follow these steps:

  • Have a Zcash wallet with Zcash
  • Navigate to the creator's zPage or profile page on Free2Z
  • Click on the "Donate" button to open the donation widget
  • Select the "Zcash" tab
  • Get the creator's address in your wallet via one of:
    • QRCode
    • Payment URI link
    • Copy-paste
  • Then, in your wallet,
    • Enter the amount you would like to donate
    • Optionally edit or clear the memo (shielded addresses only)
    • Send!

Zcash is an open-source cryptocurrency with shielded-transaction features. Those features do not remove wallet or operational risks, so you are responsible for choosing a wallet, protecting your keys, and checking the destination address.

Tips for Donating with Zcash

  • Make sure you have a Zcash wallet and that it is properly set up and funded before making a donation. Be sure to double-check the Zcash address is sent to the creator.

  • If your wallet supports encrypted memos, review who can read one before sending it: the memo goes to the creator's wallet, and Free2Z does not read or process it.
