My kid reads at an 8th-grade level and thinks about math like a 6th grader, but his computation sits around 3rd grade. The gap isn't effort. He'd look at a problem like 3/4 divided by 1/2 and have no picture in his head of what was being asked, so there was nothing to reason from.

So I wrote him a workbook that uses his strengths instead of drilling around his weakness. Words first, then pictures, then symbols, in that order. Before any computation: What is the whole? What does the denominator mean? What does the numerator mean?

44 pages. What a fraction actually is, addition and subtraction, common denominators, multiplication as scaling, both meanings of division (sharing and measuring), where the reciprocal comes from, mixed numbers, then word problems, error diagnosis, and a mastery challenge.

Free to read and print. If you have a kid who can talk circles around a problem but freezes when it turns into symbols, this was built for them.
