Zcash is a cryptocurrency that uses zero-knowledge cryptography for private and secure transactions, hiding the origin, destination and amount of transactions, preventing third parties from tracing or analyzing the flow of money.
However, the privacy of Zcash is limited at the network layer, which is the way data is transmitted over the Internet. Metadata such as IP address, location, time and frequency of communications can reveal sensitive information about users, their habits, preferences and relationships.
To solve this problem, Zcash has partnered with Nym Technologies, a company that is developing a mixnet, a network that protects the privacy of online communication metadata. Nym received a grant from Zcash Community Grants, an initiative that funds projects that enhance the Zcash ecosystem.
