Hello, Zcash, privacy & cybersecurity news fans! The newest version of the zCat - the Android app was released! Please check if you run the newest version 0.1.5. Can you find there anything worthy? Let's have a look.
Wait, what happened in 0.1.4?
Yes. That version did not get a dedicated post because it was a little release with two small changes. One change was about moving the halving countdown that is broken anyway thanks to the most likely blocked API endpoint. Another one was an extension of the list of projects for donation with Let's Encrypt and Tuta.
But what about 0.1.5?
OK, this is a bigger release. Let's have a closer look.
Wallet list
List of wallets in the Zcash/Info/Wallet section was extended by Edge Wallet, eZcash, NightHawk, Unstoppable and Keystone hardware wallet. The list should give a basic overview. More info can be found on other places such as the ZecHub website.
BlueSky Feed
The feature no one asked for, nor no one wanted. Yeah, but it is here. With Zcash preselected profiles such as zCat, ZecHub and ZingoLabs.
You can add/remove other profiles to follow. It works similarly to Free2Z or Nostr.
Zcash Forum
Another data feed to follow latest topics discussed on the Zcash Forum. For now it fetches the last 30 topics that were update updated (interacted with). It is a little hijacked, thus I will not push it muc for now.
The idea is to have all interesting data feed in one app with the possibility to browse and save interesting posts for later or to archive them. It might be a little buggy. If you find any issues, please let me know.
A reminder here that the app only fetches data. You can not use it as a client to interact with the social media platforms. It is read-only access. Intentionally.
TOR issues
Based on one unrelated post I realized that I have a gap in fetching images with the image library. I tried to address this topic with Glide library in case you want to use a TOR connection.
Unfortunately, I discovered one more issue - stability. It sucks. But please bear with me. I will try to resolve the stability issue within the next release. I might need to rewrite the part that manages the TOR connection.
If you want to use the app with an enabled TOR then be aware that the app will be slower, and might crash in some cases.
