It's been a while since I asked for your help and I wished I didn't have to do it again, but currently, I have no choice. While I'm writing this post, my old 3rd gen Intel i7 PC died on me.
It's specs are:
- Foxconn H61MXL Motherboard
- Intel Core i7 3770, 3rd Generation
- 8GBs RAM DDR3
The device turned on "as usual", but there was no video. I tried turning it off and on again, but then it didn't turn back on.
A month or two ago I had bought a new power supply, so I thought maybe it was faulty and tried swapping it with another one I have stored, since it is for a smaller case, but the computer still didn't turn on.
I tested both power supplies, both with a proper PSU tester and with the so-famous clip test, both worked correctly.
I kept troubleshooting with a different cable, different surge protectors, no surge protection, but the device still won't react. The only thing I notice is working are the two USB devices, a mouse and a keyboard.
The Foxconn H61MXL motherboard has been running for around 13 years, so it's safe to asume that it just died after being used everyday for most of my work tasks.
Why do I need your help?
I was thinking about saving for a new computer, but they're kinda expensive in my country, and having a little kid starting school and in plenty of activities saving is not really easy, so this caught me by surprise.
That computer was my main tool at work, I used it to produce content for my youtube channel, blog, and free2Z page. But most importantly, I used it to write the posts for Zcash en Español, edit the video content I produce for Zechub's channel, and to produce and edit every episode of the Free2Z On Air podcast.
Also, it served me to help test new features and bug fixes for the free2Z platform, so it was a nuclear part of my daily collaboration to the Zcash ecosystem and, also, my main source of income.
I also have a discrete Gateway computer, but it doesn't have the power for media production and content creation beyond writing a blog post or free2Z page.
How can you help me?
I need your help to get this thing up and running, and since my CPU is also 10 years or so old, I want to upgrade the whole thing.
So I would like to buy a "combo" of motherboard, CPU, and RAM modules, they don't have to be state of the art, but I would like to get, at least, a 10th generation computer.
So I found this more than adequate combo:
- ASROCK H510-HDV Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 10400 processor
- 8 GB DDR4 RAM
This combo is priced at around $300 ~ $320. I already have a graphics card, brand new 128GB SATA SSD, a 22" Dell monitor, and good keyboard and mouse, so I won't have to buy that all again.
Also, I would like to add a new CPU case to the list, since my old one is not in it's best condition after 15 years in use (I mounted my 3rd gen build in the same case my previous Core 2 Duo build was installed), so I found this one online for around $55.
So, with all that said, I might need 12,60 ZEC,or $375 to buy it all and get back to work.
Why it matters?
Like I mentioned before, my desktop computer is not only one of my main sources of income, but also the one in which I made most of the audio, video, and text content for the different parts of the Zcash ecosystem I work with, mainly the Zcash Spanish blog, Zechub, and Free2Z.
With your help, not only will I recover, and greatly upgrade, my work computer, but also offer more and better content to the Zcash community.
