One of my favorite stories in sports in recent years was the motivational hoax Nolan Smith perpetrated on his teammates to help propel them to repeat as national champions. He told them all year, "they think we're going to go 7 and 5." Meaning 7 wins and 5 losses. As defending champions, this would have been a terrible record. Georgia ended up going undefeated at 15-0, winning back-to-back national championships. When pressed, "who said you were going to go 7 and 5?" Nolan Smith admitted that he had made it up and used it as a device to put a chip on their shoulders and motivate his teammates to work harder.
Most Georgia football fans know about this already. Now, you are in on our little inside joke too. Any time we're working towards something and feel like we're not getting the respect we deserve, we just say "7 and 5" and work harder.
