The civil construction sector in Venezuela has plummeted in recent years, with an unemployment rate of 99%. This reality hits civil construction professionals particularly hard, as they face an extremely limited job market.
The economic crisis, the lack of private and public investment, and the decline in construction projects have all contributed to this discouraging scenario. For professionals like me, who have dedicated years of study and practice to specialize in this field, the current reality is heartbreaking. Not only is it difficult to find employment, but the few opportunities that are available often do not reflect the skills and knowledge we possess.
🏗️Construction is known to be an engine of economic growth, generating direct and indirect employment and stimulating other industries. In Venezuela, however, the paralysis of this sector has had a domino effect, exacerbating the already high national unemployment rate and limiting the prospects for economic recovery.
As a TSU in civil engineering, I am at a crossroads: should I wait for the situation in my country to improve or look for opportunities abroad? This is the difficult decision that many qualified Venezuelans are making, often resulting in a brain drain that exacerbates the crisis.
Given the lack of demand in the construction sector, it is imperative to explore other alternatives to generate income. This could include diversifying skills, such as learning computer-aided design, project management or technology. Entrepreneurship can also be considered, by setting up a business to provide specialized services or consultancy. Another option is training in emerging fields that are gaining ground in the labor market.
It is imperative that steps be taken to revitalize the construction sector in Venezuela. Not only would this benefit professionals like myself, but it would also be a crucial step in the country's economic recovery. The hope is that with the right policies and significant investment, we can see a renaissance in civil engineering that will provide opportunities for all Venezuelans involved in this important sector.
