I have always seen on the web, through different crowdfunding and sponsorship platforms, people asking for money for different things. I've seen things as unlikely as: requests for money to get a boob job, plastic surgery, buy a new iPhone or feed stray cats.
And, oh surprise! I've seen people selflessly helping these "causes", so I decided to take heart. So I decided to take the plunge, why not? If I succeed, which I believe I will, I will be a living testimony in Spanish that this does work, and maybe it will encourage more people to join the Zcash ecosystem.
I have never personally dared to ask for anything for myself. Maybe out of pride or embarrassment, I must say. So taking advantage of the fact that I am a recent enthusiast of Zcash and the crypto world in general, and that I discovered this wonderful, powerful and versatile tool as Free2z, I wanted to make my first request. Here I go.
For those who do not know me, my name is Roosevelt Gordones, Venezuelan still in Venezuela, computer scientist by profession, passionate about technology since the 80's, and entrepreneur since the early years of this new millennium. I discovered my vocation to teach and generate content on the Internet, and that's what I've been doing since 2010, approximately.

The truth is that, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I live in Venezuela. For those who do not know, Venezuela is, not to delve too deeply into the subject, the Soviet Union of the Caribbean, Mao's China of the Western Hemisphere, the new Cuba, but on the mainland. A country with many natural and human resources, but plunged into poverty by its politicians. Recently Venezuela has been labeled as "the new Dubai ", having a sort of "economic resurgence" with concerts of international artists, import businesses of all kinds and luxury cars on the streets, while it holds the not appreciable prize of having the highest inflation on the planet, whole families eating in garbage dumps and people dying in hospitals for lack of basic resources.
In short, a country where a university professor earned 11 dollars a month (until february of this year), but the government, in a "gesture of generosity", increased the minimum wage to 30 dollars a month in march. Yes, I know you are doing the math and the figures are not wrong: That is the equivalent of 1 dollar a day.
In order not to go on talking about the economic tragedies of my country, and how inexplicable it is to survive in such an environment, I will simply tell you that those of us who are professionals, have not emigrated from Venezuela, and work on our own, practically do so only to cover food expenses, nothing more! For many of us there is no such thing as travel, vacations or luxuries. That is impossible to do decently in this country.
The truth is that, despite the 23 years of chavista tragedy in Venezuela, there are still people who believe in honest, decent and independent work, without falling into economic benefits for political favors or businesses of dubious legitimacy. I consider myself one of those people.
But let's get to the point!
I'm doing this crowdfunding campaign to acquire a new work tool that will allow me to keep doing what I've been doing for the last 12 years: blogging, podcasting, radio, web design, and trainings in technological and digital topics.
Yes, I need a new PC. My current computer is a laptop with the following features (please don't laugh):

- Processor: i3
- Hard disk: 320 GB
- RAM memory: 2 GB

As you can see, this is a computer almost a decade old and for my daily work of audio/video editing, streaming connections, online training and remote work in general, it is totally insufficient. This is a PC that by its characteristics serves for a student of basic education or high school, but for a professional of my level, it is totally inefficient, slow and does not perform 100% with all the programs and applications that I need to use daily.
What is my intention with this campaign?
To acquire a new computer, desktop, with the following characteristics:
- Processor: i7
- SSD disk of at least 1 TB
- RAM memory: at least 16 GB
- Video Card: at least 2 GB
I am an enthusiast of GNU/Linux and Free Software in general, so I am not interested in acquiring an Apple computer or using Microsoft Windows. The new computer I will acquire will be used 100% with Open Source tools, to continue sharing and teaching this technology to my followers through my blog and my podcast.
I am currently planning to organize a FLISOL and any other initiative to spread the use of free software in my area.
I'm also working on my inclusion as an organizer of WordPress Meetups in my city.
I'm a full Telegram enthusiast, and in my channel I'm always promoting talks, interviews and activities to spread the tool and technological knowledge.
I am the founder of Blogueros de Venezuela, the only initiative in my country that seeks to bring together, promote and make visible all the people who are dedicated to blogging or have the desire to write online.
And more recently I discovered Zcash, thanks to the excellent community of Zcash en Español and its organizer, my friend @Yoditarx; and I am also starting to spread the use and knowledge of this powerful and wonderful blockchain project. You can read my first Free2Z page here.
Anyway, as you can see, all that work I do on a daily basis requires a powerful, fast and modern PC, which allows me to perform all my activities as efficiently as possible.
A device with the features I mentioned above, is approximately around 1500 US$, depending on the brand and the accessories it comes with. So that is my goal: 1500 dollars, and the estimated date of fulfillment of this goal is september 2022. With the crisis that I already mentioned in my country, buying a computer of that price, and working on your own, can easily take you a decade, maybe more (without being tempted to sell drugs or prostitute yourself). 😅
