We continue to bring Zcash to more places around the world!
On September 4, 2026, we held our first official Zcash event in the Spanish capital, and it was an event with many positive things to add to our repertoire. So get comfortable, because I'm about to give you a summary of what we experienced that day.
As you may recall, the Zcash Route was planned at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, with the intention of bringing information about Zcash, its philosophy, its technology, and its wallets to as many people as possible in Spain, in addition to Barcelona, the city where we are based and where we carry out the recurring activities of the Zcash Barcelona Club.
That's how we planned, to test the waters, the Zcash Route in Zaragoza in May (which unfortunately didn't happen), and the Zcash Route in Madrid, which was a success.
For this edition, our strategy was to connect with other communities, allowing us to leverage the audience and enthusiasts of other projects. We joined forces with the Solana and Near teams, and also had the support of Noviciado, a private club located in the heart of Madrid, very close to Gran Vía. A perfect combination!
The synergy between the speakers, the attendees, and the venue's great atmosphere made for an incredible evening, filled with networking, lots of questions, and—surprise!—during my presentation, someone asked me about the price of ZEC, and we ended up discussing that very figure live: over US$1,000 per unit.
In addition, the speakers participated in a Q&A panel, where we interacted directly with the attendees and answered their questions.
In my case, I was able to explain that Zcash is undergoing a process of evolution and improvement, both in its protocol and in its development and integration with other projects and payment gateways. I invited the developers present to learn more about Zcash, to visit the ZecHub website, and also to consider applying for a grant and contributing new ideas and solutions to our ecosystem. People were very enthusiastic! And honestly, we as the event organizers (Aura and I) were also thrilled with the positive response.
It was undoubtedly a very enriching day, in terms of making new contacts and forging collaborations for future activities. They even suggested we consider organizing a hackathon, as several attendees have projects and startups and expressed great interest in the idea.
A funny anecdote.
During my presentation, someone asked me about Monero. They said they only knew Monero and thought it was better, so they didn't understand what Zcash had to offer users. Far from getting drawn into a pointless argument, my response was: “Monero is a great project, and it also seeks the same thing as Zcash: for people to protect their privacy. We are neither enemies nor competitors; each project simply uses different technologies, and that's fine.”

We established an alliance with the owner of Noviciado (who is Venezuelan, by the way) for future events.
We met the founder of the Voight project, who was very interested in developing with Zcash.
We made contact with members of the Solana community (La Familia) in Spain.
We met Vladi, a developer and member of the Near community.
We shared with members of the Spanish-speaking Zcash community who live in Madrid.
And we left everyone wanting more!
Despite the setback in Zaragoza, our initiative, La Ruta Zcash, will definitely continue to expand to other cities in Spain. In 2027, we'll keep networking and hosting meetups, and who knows? Maybe we'll organize a bigger event... workshops on Zcash wallets, or something else entirely... We know we have the community's support.
