We are already at the BNEW2024, to share with you everything that regarding sustainability and technology is brewing in Spain and Europe.
To put you in context, dear reader: What is BNEW?
Barcelona New Economy Week - BNEW is a physical and digital B2B event that brings together unique events from the Aviation, Digital Industry, Mobility, Sustainability, Talent, Health and Experience sectors. They all share a common denominator: New Economy.
We arrived from Prague with adrenaline pumping, with a lot of tiredness, but with a lot of excitement to keep talking about Zcash with everyone we talk to.
Today we attended Day 2 of this event (we missed Day 1 because we were flying from Prague), and without a doubt it was a wonderful experience.
I have to clarify that this event has nothing to do with blockchain technology or fintech technology per se. If we talk about any fintech tool, it will always be from the traditional banking point of view.
But even if this event does not have the cypherpunk style of HCPP24, the panels of invited experts are great and are proving to be more than interesting. Let's take a look at some of the topics discussed:
This event will continue through Thursday of this week, and we will be attending every day, sharing with you everything that happens here, and talking about Zcash, its technology and the possibilities it offers for business.
What were the topics today?
There were many, and all simultaneous, in several auditoriums, but the ones we were able to be present for were:
Data sovereignty in the digital industry. Here it was mentioned the great weakness that this represents today for companies, and there was talk that companies must “open up” to care more about the data of their customers and users. I personally see the opportunity for Zcash to connect here with companies in the local technology sector, to see how they could benefit from its use.
The revolution behind generative AI, a great topic! The invited panelists agreed that much of this current new technology is used for fashion, rather than true usability or need, and mentioned the importance of educating on technology.
Local policies in Digital Transformation. Undoubtedly, Spain is an advanced, 1st world country, with openness to innovation, but there is a big BUT: regulations. Excessive regulations and taxes make this implementation slow, or simply do not happen, for fear of legal consequences. An example of this is what is happening with cryptocurrency exchanges across the EU. There is no doubt that the entrepreneurs and business people attending BNEW need a dose of Bitcoin and Zcash to expand their business horizons.
After the conference panels, there were a series of sessions with the sponsors of the event, who have made a series of demonstrations and tastings of their products. Undoubtedly, an important space for networking.
I had the opportunity to talk to 3 people, mention to them what I do, and touch them the topic crypto and blockchain, and the truth is that they do not know anything. Definitely the target of this event is different, more corporate and traditional.
Companies in Spain are a virgin territory for cryptocurrencies. Will this change in the coming years, with the tightening of regulations and the MiCA Law? We will see...

The activity is taking place at Dfactory Barcelona, an impressive Coworking space, where the main startups of Barcelona meet, a beautiful space for events and to connect with potential allies/partners/investors.
You can watch the Live we did, talking about the summary of the day.
And here are some of the photos we took of the day. Enjoy it!
