Our latest feature integration – RSS feeds – is a step towards reinforcing the bond between content creators and their audience, within a framework that respects privacy and champions decentralization.

Understanding RSS in the Modern Context

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a web feed protocol that dates back to the late 1990s. It allows users to receive updates from their favorite websites in a standardized, computer-readable format. This technology is particularly relevant for privacy and decentralization enthusiasts for several reasons:

  • Decentralization and Censorship Resistance: RSS feeds promote a decentralized approach to content distribution, reducing reliance on centralized platforms. This inherently makes it a tool for censorship resistance, as content is disseminated directly from the creator to the audience without intermediaries.

  • Enduring Popularity of Podcasts: Podcasts, a medium that has maintained its popularity over the years, benefit significantly from RSS feeds. By delivering podcasts directly to listeners, RSS ensures a consistent and unfiltered content experience.

Free2Z’s RSS Feeds: Technical Details

We’ve integrated several RSS feeds, each catering to different content categories:

  1. zPages: access the global feed of public zPages: https://free2z.com/feeds/zpages/recent.xml

  2. Converse: global feed of comments: https://free2z.com/feeds/converse/recent.xml

  3. Chat2Z: AI conversations that have been made public: https://free2z.com/feeds/ai/recent.xml

  4. Podcasts (TODO): Soon we will add optional enclosures to zPages for mp3/mp4 files so we will have a feed of podcasts: https://free2z.com/feeds/podcasts/recent.xml

For each of these types of feeds, you can also get the feeds for individual users. For example, for the user skylar, you can insert the username in the URL after feeds and find just this creator's content:

  1. zPages: https://free2z.com/feeds/skylar/zpages/recent.xml

  2. Converse: https://free2z.com/feeds/skylar/converse/recent.xml

  3. Chat2Z: https://free2z.com/feeds/skylar/ai/recent.xml

  4. Podcast (TODO): https://free2z.com/feeds/skylar/podcasts/recent.xml

How to Access and Use These Feeds

Accessing these feeds is straightforward. Users can simply append the relevant path to the Free2Z base URL. For instance, to access the AI Insights feed for a user 'john_doe', the URL would be https://free2z.com/feeds/john_doe/ai/recent.xml. These feeds can be added to any RSS feed reader or aggregator for regular updates.

Empowering Creators and Their Audience

By integrating RSS feeds, Free2Z is not just adding a feature; we are enhancing the autonomy of both content creators and their fans. Creators can distribute their content more directly to their audience. For fans, this means unfettered access to content they trust and value, free from the influence of algorithms or platform biases, upholding the principles of privacy, decentralization, and direct communication in the digital age.
