The kraken is a legendary sea monster found in Scandinavian folklore, believed to lurk off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. It is described as a giant, many-armed creature, capable of engulfing and sinking entire ships.
The earliest known account of the kraken comes from Erik Pontoppidan, a Danish Bishop who wrote extensively about sea monsters in his Natural History of Norway (1755). Pontoppidan described the kraken as a vicious creature, with its upper body resembling that of an octopus, filled with arms in various sizes. These arms were said to reach up to thirty fathoms in length, with suction cups that could catch and hold onto unwary sailors. Its lower body was cut into long, sharp tentacles that reached the surface of the sea and could be used to grasp ships, holding them down and eventually drowning them.
The kraken has also been mentioned in various literary works, most notably in Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1870). In the book, Verne described the kraken as a massive creature of immense strength and power, inhabiting the depths of the ocean. Other authors such as Herman Melville, author of Moby-Dick, and H.P. Lovecraft, author of The Call of Cthulhu, have also mentioned the kraken in their works.
Despite its legendary status, there has been no scientific evidence to support the existence of the kraken. Until now.

Fishermen Terrified by Gigantic Sea Creature
