Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution. Born in 1769, he was a general during the French Revolution and became the ruler of France in 1799. He was a dictator who created the Napoleonic Code, a set of laws that still influence many countries today. He was a masterful military strategist and won many battles, but eventually was exiled to the island of Elba in 1814. He returned to France a year later and was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. He died in exile in 1821. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769, in Ajaccio, Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. He was the second of eight surviving children born to Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. His father was a lawyer, and his mother was a noblewoman. Napoleon was baptized a Catholic, the religion of his father, and received a classical education.

In 1779, at the age of nine, Napoleon was sent to a military school in Brienne, France. He was a good student and excelled in mathematics, but he was often teased by his classmates for his Corsican accent and his provincial background. Despite the teasing, Napoleon was determined to succeed, and he graduated at the top of his class in 1784.

In 1785, Napoleon was admitted to the École Militaire in Paris, where he studied artillery and engineering. He was an outstanding student, and his instructors noted his intelligence and ambition. After graduating in 1785, Napoleon was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the La Fère artillery regiment.

Napoleon was an ambitious young man, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the military. In 1793, he was promoted to brigadier general and was appointed commander of the Army of Italy. He then led a successful campaign against the Austrians and was promoted to commander-in-chief of the French Army in 1796.

Napoleon's childhood was marked by ambition and determination. He was a talented student who used his intelligence and ambition to rise quickly through the ranks of the military. His success in battle earned him the admiration of the French people, and he eventually became Emperor of France in 1804.
