More than 80 dead and a large number of wounded is the toll of the orchestrated attack yesterday at a concert in Moscow, when heavily armed men began shooting at defenseless people inside the venue.
It was a massacre because everyone was caught off guard and bewildered, suggesting that defense organs were also compromised in this cowardly incident against innocent people who were just enjoying a previously pleasant Friday, which quickly turned into a nightmare.
Videos on social media show the exact moment when the terrorists ruthlessly shot at pedestrians who simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, there are also indications that the United States had relevant information about a possible attack and announced days ago that it could happen within a 48-hour window.
That deadline expired long ago, and yesterday was the dark day in the history of orchestrated urban terrorism, now claimed by ISIS, and Moscow is in mourning. I am astonished by what people feel when they attack defenseless individuals to assert their position, and I wonder what civilians have to do with the government and its policies?
It is imperative that people are not used as bargaining chips in dealings between terrorist organizations and the government because people should not have to pay for the government's mistakes. Often, they are not even informed about what the government does or what stance it takes regarding foreign policy. Therefore, I particularly condemn any terrorist organization that uses innocents to make a statement about their intentions.
Sad news, and I hope the Russians recover from this attack soon and that the victims receive the necessary support to overcome the traumatic stress it left behind.
