Before delving into today's topic, it's important to remind the community of what it entails. The X platform, one of the largest social media platforms today, has decided to charge new users to interact on the platform. In other words, in order to like, comment, repost, or bookmark content, they will have to pay a symbolic fee.
According to the platform, this symbolic fee will reduce bots on the platform and serve as a precautionary measure to prevent abusive behavior from certain actors.
But will this option be fruitful?
Well, I've been using X for a long time, and Elon Musk has brought a new dynamic to the platform, as well as much more development, such as monetization, free speech, and a legal team that safeguards X's interests before the law. They have done a lot to ensure that the platform does not get involved in legal problems around the world, as each country has its own legal systems.
However, the problem with bots is not because people don't pay to use X, but rather a problem created by those who already use the platform. For example, many accounts registered on X with the Golden ticker are used for scams on the platform. These accounts, paying thousands of dollars monthly, are the ones that create bots to take maximum advantage of their scams.
These accounts spare no effort to deceive people to get what they want, using scripts and automated accounts for scams that abound on X. Simply paying to use the platform will not stop the bots. I believe Elon's team decided to take advantage of the situation to make some extra money.
In my opinion, X should instead first block or even prosecute, for example, people who use verified accounts for scams on the platform because they actually have details of these accounts and possibilities to interact with authorities to pursue and prosecute the perpetrators. New users will have this inconvenience of paying to interact on X, but ultimately it will not end the bot behavior on the platform.
You see, it's a way to address the issue, but it won't definitively solve it because if there are thousands of accounts paying to be verified with the Golden badge to continue their scams, I already see the new policy as simply a maneuver by Elon's team to "milk" the platform's users even more.
Meanwhile, platforms like Free2z, for example, have long been implementing this action, and here it works because it was devised as a form of interaction on the platform and works beautifully. I prefer to pay to Boost on Free2z, support creators, and others because there is primacy on the platform.
X will always be dominated by bots and people of bad (mostly) conduct because it's where everyone is and wants to take advantage of naive people who think life is easy and they can make money in just 24 hours. Well, that doesn't happen, and those who want easy money end up being victims of scams.
