ZachXBT spent more than 350,000 USD to infiltrate a crime sindicate to track stolen funds from Hacks. In a cinematic tweet on X, the crypto detective ZachXBT narrated how he got inside a crime sindicate to help recover and track stolen funds.
He was able to track funds from the ByBit exploit where the exchange lost more than $1B to the criminals and much more.
In order to gain their trust and earn the criminals, he needed to fund a wallet with more than $350K and even lose 5% from it interacting with them.
Not only that as he put his life in danger as noted in the thread that those people are well connected and speak openly that Kim Jong-un is backing them and incentive their work. Imagine:
- That's a multinational criminal organization dealing with Billions in stolen funds. They don't have problems sending someone to look and finish up ZachXBT!
Even so the crypto detective ZachXBT continued his mission and gathered enough info to help law enforcement track and recover some stolen funds. That was not an action from yesterday, no, he helped track all those funds but couldn't expose it at the time in order to let the police to track the criminals and recover some of stolen funds while put his life in danger.
ZachXBT have helped to recover more than 75M dollars since he begun his job all of that without a grant that he will receive anything from it just relying on donations to help the crypto industry. His courage is remarkable as dealing with those kind of people he need to be very careful as the sindicate have ways to reach him and as he mention on one of his comments doesn't have budget to cover 24/7 security guards.
Even so he went on and challenged the criminals and help froze funds. I sincerely admire the guy but I don't see this as prudent from him as the tentacles from the criminals are big. Anyway great job and I hope all those companies you help recover funds and keep secure can donate more to you and keep the industry minimally safe from hackers.
