In a list recently published by Forbes, Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, continues to hold the title of the wealthiest individual in the world in the category of crypto and Bitcoin billionaires. He, who secured the top position last year as well, has seen his crypto fortune surpass $10 billion this year, surpassing the CEO of Coinbase, who now occupies the second position.
Despite the events of last year, which led CZ to exit the crypto ecosystem due to his exchange's involvement in crimes such as money laundering, the entrepreneur continues to wield significant influence in the crypto market, amassing a substantial fortune primarily from his shares as the founder of Binance.
CZ awaits sentencing this month in the US and settled with the US government last year, paying millions in fines. Since then, he has largely disappeared from the crypto world but returned this year with a new global project aimed at providing free education to children and people around the world. As part of his settlement, he is no longer involved in crypto businesses, so this project is not crypto-based but aims to educate and empower individuals worldwide.
The Forbes list features other notable figures in the crypto market, such as Brian Armstrong, who holds the second position as the wealthiest individual in the crypto and Bitcoin category. However, one name shines brighter than the rest, and that is Michael Saylor. As the CEO of Microstrategy, a tech company, Saylor secures the fourth spot on the Forbes list.
He has amassed a substantial stash of Bitcoin, totaling more than 17,000 Bitcoins, and his company's portfolio is heavily invested in Bitcoin, securing his position as one of the richest individuals in the crypto and Bitcoin sphere globally.
It's worth noting that while Changpeng Zhao tops the crypto and Bitcoin billionaires list, he also ranks 50th on the global list of the wealthiest individuals, thanks to the numerous successful business ventures he secured during his tenure as the CEO of Binance. Additionally, CZ once invested $500 million in X, a platform promoting free speech, making it one of the most widely used social media platforms globally, where people can freely share their ideas.
