Undoubtedly exists anti-propaganda against various aspects worldwide, orchestrated by affluent nations striving to maintain their political, military, and economic hegemony over others. These countries employ unorthodox means to dissuade people from visiting and discourage companies from investing in those territories.
They often depict powerful images of suffering and difficulty in these places as part of a sophisticated propaganda – sophisticated because what is portrayed in these videos often bears little resemblance to reality.
Allow me to provide a clear and direct example from my country, Mozambique. In the past, the West showcased images of war and survival difficulties, linking them, for instance, to the 2000 floods. Mozambique was portrayed as a country where people were purportedly born in trees and needed extensive support to overcome the stagnation. In reality, our society faces challenges, but they differ significantly from the narrative portrayed by the media.
Here in Mozambique, we boast a functional hospital system, conventional roads, brick houses, large globally recognized cities, and more. External opinions become an affront to the Mozambican way of life.
This video is one of the ones I found on the internet that speaks a lot of truth about what we experience here in Mozambique, and it clearly conveys the reality lived by Mozambicans. Congratulations, Indigo Insider, you hit the nail on the head.
This elaborate propaganda doesn't solely exist due to external organizations' decisions; there's some assistance from the government. They prefer to portray extreme poverty to secure substantial donations, often ending up in leaders' pockets rather than contributing to the country's development. This occurrence isn't exclusive to Africa but extends to other parts of the world where the West has vested interests or aims to discredit a particular country.
Recalling past perceptions, Russia was once depicted as an extremely difficult country where citizens lived in poor conditions, and stores had nothing on display. This portrayal aimed to create an idea of hardship, dissuading people and investments. This tactic succeeded for a considerable time, as people and investors were apprehensive about visiting.
However, with globalization and the influence of the Internet, much has been discovered and published. I'm not implying that Russia is without problems, but they manage internally, and those who can't often choose to move elsewhere.
Recently, I watched a mini-video by the former American journalist Tucker Carlson, portraying a more modern Russia where stores have almost everything Russians need to live. Based on his recordings and observations, there are adequate living conditions. Admittedly, the video would be more comprehensive if he ventured outside Moscow to explore conditions in other parts of Russia. Nevertheless, the intention is clear, and Russians have living conditions.
A similar narrative exists for North Korea, often considered the worst place to live. Despite this, there are individuals who regularly visit for vacations. Do they experience hardships while there? If so, why do they continue to visit?
Thus, the propaganda suggesting difficult and dangerous places worldwide is often crafted. If these claims were entirely true, why do people who live there, even with the means to leave, choose to stay? Is it patriotism or simply recognizing that they don't need to migrate to live a fulfilling life, opting instead to accept the reality they are in and move forward with their lives?"
