ZEC Bounties Gets Major Platform Upgrades
We’ve continued improving the ZEC Bounties platform with several new features designed to make contributing - and managing contribution - simpler and more rewarding.
The bounty board has been redesigned with better organization, including category filters and automatic hiding of canceled tasks, while administrators now have access to a new dashboard that streamlines bounty management.
One of the biggest additions this cycle is a new KPI dashboard featuring contributor badges and a gamified ranking system. Contributors can now earn badges for roles such as DAO member, node operator, miner, and researcher, while progressing through color-based ranks as they complete more bounties. Although these features are currently available only to administrators, we plan to make them public in a future release.
The dashboard also introduces new metrics that track contributions over time, bounty categories, user address types, and average ZEC earned per contributor. Besides making the platform more engaging, these improvements significantly simplify our monthly treasury reporting and provide greater transparency into how the bounty program evolves.
Treasury Report: Q2 2026
Transparency remains one of our core priorities, and this quarter we shared a detailed overview of how community funds are being allocated and where we see opportunities for the remainder of the year.
Bounty Program
Since the beginning of 2026, the bounty program has completed 293 payments, including 136 during Q2, with around 20 active contributors each month working across documentation, software development, graphic design, educational content, newsletters, social media, and animation.
The new KPI dashboard now gives everyone better visibility into contributor activity, bounty categories, and average earnings, making it easier for the community to follow how funds are being distributed over time.
Current Treasury Allocation
The treasury administered by FPF is currently allocated across four primary initiatives:
17 ZEC — Bounty Program
10 ZEC — Community Proposals
20 ZEC — Global Ambassadors
25 ZEC — Hackathon
The possibility of reducing the 2 hackathon allocation from the original 50 ZEC planned was raised as part of our ongoing treasury planning.
As of the end of June, 73.53 ZEC remained from the 100 ZEC allocated for the 2026 program, keeping spending broadly on pace for the year.
Beyond the FPF treasury, we also maintain additional resources through the ZCG treasury, community donations dedicated to Zcash education, and recent funding from the Zcash Foundation to manage Zcash brand content.
Looking Ahead
We also reviewed our financial outlook for the coming months.
Current commitments - including Global Ambassadors, Zcash India, Zcash East Africa, Zcash Korea, the Discord engagement bot, Luma calendar management, and ongoing translation work, represent approximately $18,400 in planned obligations.
Based on current market conditions, this leaves roughly 2.88 ZEC per month available for new bounties and community proposals if spending remains unchanged.
One of the main topics of discussion was the second ZecHub Hackathon planned for later this year. Rather than scaling back community initiatives, the general consensus favored continuing with the original roadmap and, if necessary, supplementing funding with donations specifically designated for Zcash education.
We also discussed the long-term role of ZecHub’s treasury. As community initiatives mature, larger programs may eventually transition to direct ZCG funding, allowing us to continue focusing on incubating new educational and community-driven projects.
Hackathon & Community Updates
We’re currently updating the website to showcase submitted projects while collecting DAO member emails for the upcoming two-stage SIV vote that will determine the five finalists.
To support future builders, we’ve also published a new community-created hackathon guide based on participant feedback collected after the event.
On the content side, we released new YouTube Shorts featuring interviews with Harry Halpin and Dappcon, with another interview still scheduled for release. We’re also reaching out to developers from Zap and Uniswap for future community interviews.
Meanwhile, Zcash Engineering Office Hours is now featured on the Zcash ecosystem page alongside community projects, podcasts, and Global Ambassador initiatives, making one of the ecosystem’s richest educational resources easier to discover.
Expanding Developer Resources
We’ve continued expanding the ZecHub Wiki with new tools and documentation for developers.
A new Zallet RPC Quick Reference Guide is now available, providing an easy reference for developers building on Zallet as it moves beyond beta.
We’re also exploring a new Latest News section that would organize Shielded News and ecosystem updates by topic, transforming the wiki into both a knowledge base and a convenient place to stay informed about everything happening across Zcash.
Community contributions continue to play an important role as well. Recent pull requests have updated outdated documentation, including improvements to the Raspberry Pi 4 guide, demonstrating how more contributors are helping keep educational resources accurate and up to date.
With zcashd now officially reaching end of life, we also completed the final remaining zcashd-related task within our infrastructure, marking the end of another long-running chapter for the ecosystem.
What’s Next
Development across the ecosystem continues.
On ZEC Bounties, we’re evaluating support for Sign in with Zcash authentication while continuing to refine the platform based on community feedback. Contributors can also now manage email notifications for task assignments and updates directly from their profile settings.
We’re also accepting submissions for a new bounty to design merchandise celebrating Zcash’s 10th anniversary, with applications remaining open on a rolling basis.
Beyond platform improvements, we’re continuing to explore new ways to grow the community through better analytics, more diverse content formats, and stronger educational resources as the ecosystem prepares for Ironwood.
