Breach All Gates: Zcash Update 🚪
Before sharing this week’s updates, Josh focused on the risk of gatekeepers in digital money.
When access depends on intermediaries, users can lose control over their data, transactions, and financial autonomy. Zcash is framed here as infrastructure for private, permissionless money, reducing dependence on systems that can monitor, restrict, or control access.
ZODL also shared progress across mobile, core development, policy, and ecosystem work.
Zodl Mobile
Work continued on Orchard-to-Ironwood migration and note-splitting flows.
A new Maya DEX swap aggregator was built on Android through Swapkit.
An early macOS prototype is now in progress for future desktop support.
Next priorities include Ironwood migration implementation, iOS security hardening, localization tooling, and QA/UI work for the first macOS beta.

Zcash Core and R&D
Zallet 0.1.0-alpha.4 shipped with direct Zebra state access, an updated Zaino backend, new RPC methods including
z_shieldcoinbase, cookie-file JSON-RPC authentication, and a built-in encryption-identity command.ZODL continued work across NU6.3, Ironwood,
librustzcash, Zcash SDKs, Zebra, and wallet infrastructure.Draft NU6.3 ZIPs landed, including ZIP 258 and ZIP 229, while formal verification of the Ironwood circuit continues.
Ironwood-related work also moved forward with Orchard PRs from Tachyon, NU6.3 support from Valar Group, Keystone multi-sign review, and
librustzcashmaintenance.Next priorities include NU6.3 testnet activation, Zallet alpha.5, transparent-to-transparent support, remaining RPC work, large-wallet performance improvements, and Orchard-to-Ironwood migration planning.
Policy & Ecosystem
PGPZ Community and Coalition published the June 15 weekly policy memo and an analysis of FinCEN/OFAC Stablecoin NPRM comments.
Invites are out for the June 30 PGP Coalition Launch Breakfast.
Planning continued for the DC Privacy Summit and Cypherpunk Policy Dinner.
Derive launched ZEC options, opening new hedging and market-structure opportunities around ZEC.
Ecosystem discussions continued around cypherpunk values, privacy as power, Bitcoin traceability, maintainable code, and broader market developments.
Zodl 3.7.0 Improves Transaction Reliability 📱
Zodl 3.7.0 is now available, with updates focused on making transactions more reliable, wallet activity more accurate, and the app more secure.
The biggest change is improved transaction broadcasting. When server selection is set to Automatic, Zodl now sends transactions through multiple servers at once. If one server is slow or unavailable, another can help deliver the transaction to the network.
This builds on the Automatic and Manual server selection options introduced in Zodl 3.6.0. Users who prefer more control can still use Manual mode and choose a specific server in Advanced Settings.
The release also includes security improvements across iOS and Android, including stronger local data export protections, Tor-related fixes, and additional safeguards for swap processing on Android. Some of these swap protections are expected to arrive on iOS in the next release.
This version also fixes several wallet experience issues, including successful transactions briefly showing as failed, received transactions staying pending too long, a decimal-separator regression, the Orchard subtree-roots storage error, and a Keystone hardware wallet disconnect issue on Android.
Users can update through the App Store, Google Play, or ZODL’s F-Droid repository.

- Supports continuous fuzzing infrastructure to check that batch and single-item verification behave consistently across Zcash shielded verification components, including work relevant to Ironwood.

- A proposed test suite for several core ZIPs, including test vectors, cleanroom implementations, language bindings, and spec audit notes. The committee did not approve it in its current form.
Zcash Privacy & Digital Freedom Education Initiative | $7,000
- A Nigeria-focused education proposal with workshops, wallet onboarding, and online content. The committee encouraged collaboration with existing Zcash groups already active in Nigeria.

- A proposed indexing and discovery layer for application assets on Zcash. The committee raised concerns that the approach depends on external indexing rather than Zcash consensus, and may not align well with Zcash’s privacy model.
Zcash Hostile-Companion Clear-Signing Fixture Pack | $12,750
- A proposed test fixture pack for Zcash hardware wallet clear-signing scenarios. The committee felt the value was limited because related testing already exists elsewhere and automation would be difficult.
Zcash Arabia (June to September 2026) | $16,000
- A continuation proposal for Arabic-language Zcash education and community work across the MENA region. The committee wanted to see stronger community growth before approving more funding.
Zinfra — Sovereign Zcash Infrastructure Platform for Africa and the World | $42,003
- A proposal to build and operate Zcash infrastructure in Lagos, including RPC services, developer VPS access, and renewable-powered hosting. The committee raised concerns about execution, usefulness for developers, and overall project scope.
University of Ibadan Zcash Bootcamp: Privacy, Shielded Finance, and Real Adoption | $13,780
- A proposed in-person Zcash education bootcamp at the University of Ibadan. After community feedback and discussion, the applicant moved to withdraw the request, and the grant was later closed.

- A formal verification proposal focused on consensus-critical arithmetic and parsing in

red·bridge Prepares for Launch 🌉
Last week, Kit, a red·bridge developer, shared that the project is moving closer to launch, with several Zcash-aligned groups expected to participate as guardian-validator node operators, including Shielded Labs, ZecHub, Zcash Brasil, and others.
Kit also shared that several community members have shown interest in running nodes through the Zcash Discord, with a program for individual node operators expected soon.
The original ZCG funding was focused on building the bridge software, which is now nearing completion. With launch approaching, the team has submitted a new ZCG grant request to support the next phase.
The new request covers roughly seven months of work needed to bring red·bridge to full functionality, including:
completing remaining launch deliverables;
supporting revenue-generating bridge operations;
legal and compliance costs related to the new RBR Association Swiss Verein;
go-to-market work for the bridge launch.
As part of the proposal, the red·bridge team is also offering to maintain a fork of the Webzjs and MetaMask Snap codebase, which helps websites integrate with Zcash wallets. Since this software is important for red·bridge operations, the team sees it as a natural fit to maintain as Zcash moves through NU6.3, NU7, and future upgrades.
Obscura Labs Launches to Support Zcash Growth in Africa 🌍
Chidi introduced Obscura Labs, an independent, non-US organization registered in Nigeria, with a strategic focus on Africa and emerging markets.
The organization was created to help strengthen Zcash adoption across Africa by building infrastructure, tools, and practical pathways for users, developers, businesses, and local communities.
Its work will focus on four main areas:
Infrastructure: operating services such as DNS seeders, Zebra nodes, lightwalletd, public RPC endpoints, developer APIs, and monitoring tools.
Adoption and financial access: improving fiat access, payment integrations, merchant adoption, and real-world ZEC usability.
Community growth: supporting education, university outreach, workshops, translations, content, and contributor development across Africa.
Ecosystem collaboration: working with Zcash organizations, builders, researchers, and community leaders to support financial privacy and network resilience.
Obscura Labs already has several initiatives underway, including African-based DNS Seeder infrastructure, Zebra node infrastructure, lightwalletd services, public infrastructure monitoring, and ZecFiat, an initiative focused on improving access between ZEC and local currencies.
If successful, Obscura Labs could become an important local infrastructure and adoption hub for Zcash across Africa.
