Even those who had already been sent to the concentration camps - were returned.
These women demanded the return of their husbands.
They didn't demand to replace them in the camps with other Jews.
They simply demanded the return of their husbands.
They took to the streets and did not leave.
They stopped being afraid.
Amidst the war. In an atmosphere of fear and total surveillance. Under the rule of a monstrous dictatorship. Risking being labeled as traitors.
The danger for these women and their children, their families, did not disappear.
But they stood up, went out, and said, "Give us back our husbands." Not "replace our husbands," but specifically "return our husbands."
And the Nazi scoundrels backed down.
Why doesn't something like this happen in modern Russia?
Although I want to believe that someday it will.
After all, in Germany in '39, '40, '41, nothing like this happened either.
