In Iran, the fifth sentence has been issued against Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nargis Mohammadi.
The court in Iran has issued a fifth sentence to human rights activist Nargis Mohammadi. She was sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges of spreading "propaganda" against the Islamic Republic.
The verdict was announced on December 19. The court, among other things, prohibited the human rights activist from leaving the country, engaging in politics, and using communication means for two years.
The judge also ruled to transfer her from Tehran's Evin prison, where she is currently serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence for "propaganda and defamation" against the government. The destination of Mohammadi's transfer is not disclosed.
According to Mohammadi's Instagram page, this is her fifth sentence since 2021. Three of them are related to actions she allegedly committed in prison. In total, Mohammadi was sentenced to 12.3 years in prison and 154 lashes.
In October, the human rights activist was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "fighting against the oppression of women in Iran and promoting human rights and freedom for all."
