In a world where the consumer has been trained to value glittering pieces of compressed carbon, understanding the nature and value of natural gemstones is counter intuitive.
like precious gems, we all have flaws. Oftentimes our flaws are what set us apart, make is unique and special and create value.
The worship of the "flawless" diamond reveals in and of itself the futile pursuit of perfection by an imperfect species.
I can draw an analogy between the oils and resins used to treat emeralds like makeup or a an expensive car or house. The window dressings feed the ego and provide a mask we distribute amongst other humans but ultimately hide our most beautiful characteristics.
why are people so afraid to show the world who they really are and what they're really made up? has society trained us so well as to disguise our true nature in order to not feel vulnerable and imperfect?
The demonstration of socially accepted appearances alienates us from ourselves to a level so we forget who we really are. And in that light, our own value at human capital is lost.
