At the end of last year, I was diagnosed with a severe bacterial infection that became especially dangerous because of my low immunity. As it progressed, it formed an internal mass that affected my lungs, spine, muscles, and nerves, eventually reaching my spinal cord and taking away my movement from the waist down.
Since Christmas, I have been unable to walk. I live with intense and constant pain, and my treatment has required morphine and other very strong medications. Beyond the emotional impact of everything that has happened, this new reality has also brought a heavy financial burden for me and my family.
At this stage, my care continues through outpatient follow-up and rehabilitation, with physiotherapy becoming an essential part of what lies ahead. Even with public healthcare support, the day-to-day demands of treatment, transportation, and recovery remain challenging, and the costs surrounding long-term care add up quickly.
Right now, one of the most important things that could improve my daily life is a specialized chair. It would allow my wife and me to manage basic care more safely and with more dignity, especially for bathing and getting back to bed. It would also help reduce our dependence on outside assistance, making it easier to preserve resources for ongoing medical needs and regular appointments.
At 52 years old, I never imagined I would be facing something like this. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help bring relief, dignity, and a little more stability during this difficult time.
