Hello Again and Welcome to Cypherpunk Underground, your survival guide for the dystopian future. Cypherpunk Underground believes that everyone inherently has the right to self defense. However, due to geographical misfortune, totalitarian regimes, or lack of funds, some individuals are unable to buy or legally possess firearms. This lack of self-protection leaves these indivduals vulnerable to the will of bad actors.
In 1945 George Orwell, the Author of literary classics 1984 and Animal Farm wrote an opinion editorial titled You and the Atomic Bomb in which he talked about the powerful weapons goverments possess and the means in which citizens can best defend themselves. The message of his article is that simple and easily weapons are an instrument of democracy against despots and tyrants.
Now that the stage is set, lets get to what this chapter is all about: The FGC-9 (F#$% Gun Control 9mm)
Wikipedia describes the FGC-9 as follows:
The FGC-9 is a physible, 3D-printable semiautomatic pistol caliber carbine, first released in early 2020. Using the Shuty AP-9 by Derwood as the basis, the FGC-9 was designed and first manufactured by a pseudonymous German-Kurdish gun designer named JStark1809. The designer created the pistol with the self-imposed constraint that its creation would not require a single potentially regulated (according to E.U. laws) firearm part in order to enable people in countries with restrictive gun control to manufacture it. The weapon is a mix of fabricated 3D printed parts, easily manufactured metal pressure-bearing parts, and readily available springs, screws, nuts, and bolts. The total cost of production, assuming the user already owns a 3D printer, is less than USD$400. The FGC-9 is noted for its deep and thorough documentation, included in the release, which make construction and assembly fairly simple. The documentation has been translated into several other languages since it was first published.
Detailed plans including 3D printing .STL files for the newest version of the FGC-9 can be found at DEFCAD. With the use of a 3d printer and access to online stores such as Alibaba and Ebay it is fairly simple to produce your own firearm. For those in the United States it is even easier to make because many commerically availble parts can be used.
